My high and low of being obese came a few months ago when interviewing for a new job out of state and had to fly. “Oh good, they have seatbelt extenders” turned into “do they have seat extenders?” Nothing like thinking how you’re going to extract yourself from the seat as the flight attendant is giving you vanilla shortbread cookies…🙄

I feel this so much. I am currently in the process of working toward gastric bypass surgery. Just doing everything that you need to do to qualify is difficult. I am so envious of your progress. You are in inspiration.

Been there, done that my whole life. Still stuck in the cycle at age 72. Thank you for your honesty and willingness to share your story.

Right there with you. Tony. I did have gastric bypass surgery 13 years ago. I got down by around 150 lbs. I then stalled. Yo- yo weight but I’d get it back together sporadically. 2 years ago, I began walking school day. Always increasing my total steps (then miles) each week. I plateaued weight wise so I upped my steps. I built to 5.1 miles per day in early July, 2022. My knee gave out and I had to cut way back in the steps. I’m at 25 lbs to to go until I can have a knee replacement. Your story always encouraged me. It still does!

Note: while I had/have horrible eating habits, genetically I got a double whammy with respect to weight & osteoarthritis. No excuses, just facts. Your words continue to reinforce my resolve to get these last lbs off. People who have never had fat issues have no idea our struggle. I’d join a gym but then get judged because at my size, I am not the most athletic or graceful person working out. I saw my father crippled by his early 60s with osteoarthritis confined to a wheelchair. I do not want that to happen to me. I retire on March 1,2023. Too many things to do and too many places to go! Thank you again for your honesty, Tony!
