People have short memories. They always have, which is why history repeats itself often. I remember when I was a kid, I used to have a so-called friend who was always horrible to me in the end. I would go to his to to hang out, and then it would turn bad, and then my dad would pick me up. So finally, after like the fifth time, my dad looked and me after picking me up and asked me a simple question.
“How many times do you need to be hit on the head with a hammer before you realize it hurts?”
Even if you take the pandemic out, 2016-2020 was not a great time for America. Donald Trump made SCOTUS decisions we are dealing with now. The hatred of Muslim Americans was on the rise. Anti-Semitism was on the rise. People want to pretend that the economy was great, but it wasn’t. In fact, we are dealing with the effects of it now.
Donald Trump is a bad person. More than that, he does something else. He gives the worst Republicans the confidence to be bad. I keep going back to Abortion and I still to the day cannot believe we are going backwards. I mean, I guess I can believe it, but what I cannot believe is how many people are not fighting for women’s rights. It is because people do not get it. They think it is about babies. No, it is about power.
What is weird now is there is a shift in the Democrats. It seems like people are just figuring out that there has never been peace in Israel. People are kind of figuring out that Israel has been in over 15 wars since 1947 and there has always been considerations for peace that were never met. The leadership in Israel needs to change, I believe that, but I also believe now more than ever, especially in Democrats, Anti-Semitism is the highest it has been.
I do not feel as aligned as I did. I actually feel a little lost. When you have a common enemy, it is easy. It was easy to stand next to Rashida Tliab in 2019 and yess “Impeach The Motherf*cker. It is not easy to stand next to her today when she feels i am to blame for Gaza.
And people who supported Ukraine funding are now not. People who had the same basic ideals as I had are changing. I think that is life. I honestly refuse to go to a high school reunion because I do not need to see people I knew were horrible in the 90’s still be horrible, just now wearing a MAGA hat.
But as a collective group, we have not come very far. People are so mad at Biden based on slanted news. FOX was always the joke. Now, other networks are doing the same. Saying what you want to hear. I refuse to wantch it. I can read an AP report and other sites to get my opinion.
But here is the thing, while I feel lost, while in some ways I kind of lost my way with a party I have been with for years, I never in a million years would not vote for Biden. While I might be salty, I believe the last four years, although definitely a struggle, is in the right path. I am sick of going backwards. I am tired of men cheering as laws against women in the 1800’s are being instilled. And every third party person on both sides, The RFK Jr, the Joe Walsh, the Dean Phillips, the Andrew Yangs and the Jill Steins…none care about this country. They care about a book deal. They care about attention. They care about disruption. We had that. I refuse to go back to it if I can help it.
And I can. I am an American citizen, and as mad and lost and bewildered as I am today, which is why I am talking about politics less and less, I am voting for Joe Biden.
And here is why…
I am not a f*cking idiot.
You are definitely not an idiot. And everything you said is spot on.
