Most of you don’t know why I am verified on Twitter. Hell, I don’t blame you. But I started a blog in 2008 about my first of many weight loss journeys. The difference with that blog was I wrote more about how being morbidly obese destroyed my life rather than the day to day of tracking food and pre workouts and blah blah blah. It got to a point where three million people were reading it a month which was pretty cool. And I was promoting the heck out of it on Facebook.
I loved Facebook. I had a verified page where I would share my thoughts. I wasn’t political. I mean, I had extremely liberal takes but it was not bashing Republicans. I would try and focus on my health and how the health market really prey on the vulnerable. Yes I hate Dr. Oz and Bob Harper and The Biggest Loser because they lied to people like me for financial gain. And I promised myself I would never do that, No matter what.
The diet industry changed a lot from 2008-2015 and so did I. I wrote about different things and was lucky enough to have 100 thought pieces published. You might not know, but I still have the most read piece ever published on Huffington Post. I helped a bullied child meet a boy band she loved on Good Morning America. I helped a friend write a book. And then I hated everything I was doing.
So I deleted my Facebook and stopped blogging. Instead I went to Twitter with 5,000 followers and tried to build an audience with my political voice. It worked. I got verified and each day I would gain more people who enjoyed my thoughts.
This is off topic but I once owned a business with a man who I would consider the worst human being ever. Just a truly evil man. But he said one thing that will always stick with me. He said nothing is forever. He told me that all good things will end but you need to be able to have the courage to realize that and move on. And although everything else he said was garbage, that was a great piece of advice.
So I am going on and on about how I got to where I am. I have over 200,000 followers on Twitter, over 40 million views a month, and have gone viral many times.
And it is over.
Twitter has sucked for a while. It isn’t Elon’s fault. He will make it worse, but the lack of accountability of those who threaten and post racially motivated posts or false narrative posts is what hurt Twitter. Twitter is no better than 4Chan. Twitter is basically Truth Social except a much better and faster processor. And honestly, it sucks.
Twitter is now saying that to keep a verification, you will need to pay twenty dollars a month. That is absolutely laughable. I would not pay one fucking penny to be verified. Most people think it is so important and its not. I like it so people cannot make fake accounts about me. But other than that, who gives a shit.
So I am announcing a few things with this post. First off, this is now where I will be sharing my thoughts. I have around 300 subscribers and that is fine with me. I forgot how therapeutic it is to write more than a “fuck all maga” under a Matt Gaetz tweet. While i thought this would just be for health, I have decided to also make this a long form for my thoughts on politics, candy, weight loss, and more candy. Mmmmm candy.
Second, I am back on my health journey! I have lost 40 pounds so far. I want to share more of that here. i want to tell you what I am doing, what I am using, my workouts…EVERYTHING!
And third, I refuse to ever pay for my verification on Twitter. I am slowly going to ween off of there. It is not fun. Anonymous accounts are meant for people who are harassed, not for those who harass. And I do not see Twitter getting any better. My favorite accounts are influenced by Super PACs. Journalists don’t share the good stuff because they want it in books and nazis are everywhere.
So the moral of this story is I will be in this space a lot. You can subscribe for free or help me out and pay for a subscription or buy me a coffee here . I will keep my writing for free for a while but I will be supporting myself sharing my thoughts here.
Anyway, thank you for reading so far. I will be sharing a lot more this week. But for now, just know I am not leaving Twitter, I just wont be posting there as much and will be here
