The Art Of David Crosby
It really doesn't cost a thing to be a good person, which David is not.
Art- works (as pictures, poems, or songs) made through use of the imagination and creative skills by artists.
Let me start off by saying this whole story bothers me. It really shouldn’t but it does.
David Crosby is a famous singer, song-writer and musician who founded two bands and has made award winning music for well over 50 years. He is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has won numerous awards and has thousands upon thousands of fans. David also seems to be on the right side of history by fighting causes that help others. And from what I have seen, he seemed kind to those who adore him.
He also allegedly has another side of being horrible. John Denver once called him an asshole. John fucking Denver called him an asshole. I have not seen that side and I have followed him for years.
The other day, a fan posted a drawing of David Crosby and thanked him for the years of music he has produced. It was genuine. The art in itself is my kind of art. I respect all art but this piece had it all for me. It had a stained glass feel to it, detailed enough to be David Crosby, and honestly something I would love to put on my wall.
David Crosby replied to this in a quote tweet. Here is his reply.
So, first off, John Denver was right. David Crosby is an asshole. This reply is unnecessary and rude. The art in itself is great except for the poor subject being drawn. Second, why would you say this to someone who looks up to you. I mean, if you hate it, just fucking ignore it.
But more than all of this is I saw a piece of me in this.
I have been doing art for a living for four years now. I do what is called “stick figure” art. I draw a stick figure and my words. Now, I am aware that anyone can draw a stick figure. But everyone can not put my words with it.
It helps me. I do it to make myself laugh or think or be inspired. And I build on it more and more. I draw more detailed items and I add stickers but its my words in the art that is always me. It is a part of me. When I sell my art, people buy me. And I would rather do that than make a 20 second Cameo any day.
I got a ton of hate for it when I started. Who am I kidding, I still do.
My dog can draw better
My 3 year old can draw better
Your art is shit
Okay. Let them. If your dog can express depression please do. If your three year old can share their opinions of politics, I implore them to. And yes, my art is not for everyone, but its far from shit. It has saved my life.
I gifted two celebrities my art in the past. Both were assholes about it. So I promised myself never to do that again. If someone wants my art, I will have a talk with them in direct message and make it affordable for them and make sure they enjoy.
Art is subjective and people can be cruel. They can also be supportive.
But my point is, DJBSackett, quit your day job. Your art is amazing.
