I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you, how many of you are sitting here now about to cross the stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you’re going to get in your career. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world. But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.- Harrison Butker
This is just a part of the long and winding speech that place kicker Harrison Butker of the Chiefs gave to the graduating class of Benedictine College this week. The other parts of the speech read like every other MAGA speech. F Biden blah blah vaccines suck blah blah alpha male blah blah pro life blah blah blah blah woke cancel culture amen. To be honest, I have now seen this from all walks of MAGA/Conservative life so none of that part surprises me.
When you have a MAGA speech, you can have two sides. One is the side that agrees with all MAGA and the other is one with a brain. But you also can raise a lot of money because dumb people love dumb people.
Benedictine is a Catholic college known for being very conservative. I hate the fact that hatred can be hidden into “conservative”, but it is what it is. Not a hard school to get into as they do have a 100% acceptance rate. Graduation rate is right around 60% and for a private school, their tuition is lower compared to others. Also has been getting stronger academically. And they also have 53% women enrolled there. So, to be clear, and while I do not agree with any MAGA talking point, I am smart enough to understand the Fck Brandon effect in a conservative speech.
But that is not what is going on here.
By now, whether you know football or not, I am sure you know about the Kansas City Chiefs. You know their QB, and their TE. You know Taylor Swift, and you know Jason Kelce cheering. You probably follow enough to know about the happenings of Rashee Rice. That is for someone who knows absolutely nothing about football. Yet you know who number 87 is. If you know anything about football, then you know much much more.
Harrison Butker is a place kicker. On a team with a QB that throws a lot of touchdowns. His mom is Medical Physicist at Emory University and has been since 1988, seven years before Harrison was born. His dad is in finance. Harrison went to Georgia Tech, was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round, signed on their practice squad, then joined the Cheifs. You really hear nothing about him. You never hear the other teammates talk about him or rave about him. He is ovsiously very conservative, but so is Justin Tucker, yet you hear his team rave about him often. Well, his team, not other teams.
So Butket decided to give a speech and honestly should have stuck to the MAGA script. While his mom is cited on research for stem cell and vaccines, he of course is :against the jab”. While he hates Biden, he also is bringin home the most money since he became president. All MAGAs are hypocrites and yes I now lump everyone with this mindset as a MAGA whether they like Trump or not.
But instead, he made one of the biggest mistakes possible. He decided to tell a graduating class of mostly women that they should not be excited about what they gathered over the last four years. They should be excited about finding someone and making babies and staying home.
I am laughing because it is so easy to be a MAGA yet people screw it up. Like the rules are simple. Do not give handjobs in theaters. Do not expose your penis at a bowling alley. Do not shoot dogs. Do not get caught trying to overthrow the goverment (not getting caught is okay). And do not tell the majority of this planet to stay home and be moms.
It is so easy to be a MAGA. Anything else you can say. You can attack my religion and others. You can attack minorities. You can make fun of the Obamas and Clintons and Biden. Yet you cannot break the few rules.
Butker did.
And did so with little support. I mean, Outkick will support him because Outkick supports every asshole on this planet. Daily Wire will because this is kind of their jam. Jason Whitlock will support him because he needs clicks. But few others will. And his speech was not religious based. It was not thought provoking. It was someone who put tending words together.
And it is insulting. To every parent there, who has a child they spent over 6 figures for an education. To every graduate who buted their but to earn that diploma. They deserved more.
But you know, I look at things a little different now. There are bad people in this world. Comedians I once admired are explaining how they are canceled to large areans on Netflix. Writers who attack marginalized groups play the victim. People who fight for schools to ban books are crying that Blazing Saddles could not be made today. Yes, the same Blazing Saddles that is on 7,827 streaming sites and would be greenlighted in a second for a remake. Governors who do not want us to say gay, Senators who do not want women to have rights. A SCOTUS who will do everything to turn this country backwards. We live this daily.
But there is another part to it. The reaction has been stunning. The NFL came and refuted Butker’s speech. Patrick Mahomes, who admittingly says he does not talk to Butker, made a point to talk about the importance of women’s sports. More and more people are coming out to talk about Butker’s absurdity, which is not religious based. It is easy to say he should have stuck to sports. But hell, I will go one further. he just should have stuck to the ole MAGA handbook. But instead, he decided to call an audible. And say what he did. It is based on hatred of women. Plain and simple.
So I try not to get too personal, but my son is graduating 8th grade next week. The principal brought him in and asked him if he would do a reflections speech for the ceremony. Now, my son is like me in a lot of ways, but one way he is not is that he is incredibly humble. He will not admit why he was asked to make this speech. It was because of a lot of factors, all positive.
So yesterday he was working on it and will not tell me any, which is fine. All he said was “Don’t worry, I am not writing a Butker.”
So I cannot stop all the stupidity in the world. I just control what I can. And I think I have sone a good job with it.

Nicely done, Tony, and thank you. Good luck to your son with his speech, which I know will be thoughtful, gracious, and kind.
