One of the main reasons I left restaurants in 2015 was because of my kids. I saw too many managers not be able to spend time with their kids or miss moments. And I do not know who said this to me, but someone once said “The only people that will remember you worked late and came in on your days off are your kids.” I did not want to be remembered like that.
So after a long battle of working with wholesaling gars, owning a car dealership, and selling art, I am here. And I am able to spend time with my kids and know them.
So my son loves to ask questions he knows the answer to. He does not have a social media. He will not get one. He does not want one because he has read articles about athletes ruining their chances of getting in a good school because of it. His goal is to play D1 Baseball. He knows he has to work hard in school and practice. He does both.
So we were driving the other day and all of the sudden asked me if I liked politics. He has never asked this before. While he does not have social media, he knows how to Google my name. So he is well aware of what I do online.
So I responded I did not understand what he meant. I truly did not understand. He then proceeded to ask me my thoughts on a few topics. Social issues. Every one of them is what I post here. He agrees with all. But I kind of knew why he asked me.
I do not like politics. I think both sides are not equal, but both sides have issues to work on. It is easy to condemn Trump but also defend someone on the left for doing similar things. I see it a lot with harassment issues. Also with lobby issues. There is a ton of hypocrisy in politics in general. It is shown when Ted Cruz and Chuck Schumer joke with each other on the floor.
But there are things worth fighting for. And those things do not have to affect me or my son. Neither of us can get pregnant, but that does not mean I wouldn’t fight for any woman’s right to make choices about her body. I would fight for everyone’s right to be happy, a man loving a man or a woman born as a man who transitions. But that is not politics. Well, it shouldn’t be. That is human decency.
My son asked me about trans athletes in high school and college. I asked him if he could name who the top female runner in college is without googling it, or who won the local marathon, or who was the top woman’s powerlifter three years ago. With that being said, why on Earth would anyone transition for sports??? They transition to be happy. Thinking it is to cheat or for some crazy reason to harm kids is such a stupid thought process. And sadly, we have a lot of stupid people. Mostly on the right. Yeah, I said it. The whole “Socially Liberal but Fiscally Conservative” thing we knew 30 years ago is out the wing.
People want to live the way they were born to live. It sucks a man was bown in a woman’s body, but luckily they can transition. If a man loves a man, great.
And who gives a shit if they compete as someone they are!
But politics for me now is frustrating. 2016 damaged a lot with SCOTUS, and the reversal of so many things that made this country great is hard to see. It is hard to see people defend a man who time and time again has swindled people out of money and told us to inject ourselves with bleach. It is hard to live in a state with such a bad governor. And the funny thing is, as bad as he is, people would rather have someone who is worse and possibly be in jail.
And I cannot watch MSNBC or CNN anymore. I used to. 90% of the hosts are horrible, and the 10% of the good hosts have the worst commentators. I am sorry, but John Kasich signed one of the most restrictive abortion bans as governor of Ohio in 2018. yet, people give him a pass because he says “Trump Bad”. Michael Cohen literally threatened people and promoted violence for those who tried to sue Donald Trump. Oh, people forget that, he is fun now because “Trump Bad”. And do not even get me started on Joe Walsh. Not the Eagles one. The one that told people who would get a gun and revolt if Trump wasn’t president in 2016. Oh, people forget. Now he is tons of fun on news stations. Same with George Conway.
So no, I do not like politics. I rarely comment anymore. I have Marge Three Toes, Forehead Gaetz, and Bobo blocked on Twitter.
But locally, I will support my rep. I will support good people who want to truly change what is bad about this country. And I am not like everyone. I believe America is great. But we are not in the best place today.
So no, I do not like politics. But I sure as hell will fight for everyone’s happiness, even if it affects mine.
