5 Weight Loss Tips That Helped Me
Enjoy this post for free. This will be a weekly post for paid subscribers
At least once a week, I am going to post some weight loss tips (that helped me) to my paid subscribers. This is one that will be free so you can see if you would consider a subscription. I feel like I want to do something I have not done before to those who support me. If you have followed me for years, I rarely talk about things I do. I talk more about the struggles I have had and triumphs.
But I think it will be nice to give you something. Along with this, there will be a paid only chat where you can ask me anything or ask others in the chat without judgement. I think it will help keep some people accountable. That some people will be me.
I have lost and gained and lost and gained and lost a lot of weight in my life. The good thing is I know a lot of good ways to lose weight effectively. The bad thing is I know a lot of good ways to gain weight effectively. But I do not want to focus on that today.
So here are a few tips that I have found success with over the last few months. I am not going to be condescending with the “eat less move more” aspect of it. It is not fair to either of us. It should be assumed. But some might not be. So here are some tips that have helped me…
Walk- Okay, I rarely moved while I was 470 pounds. I did not know where to start. It is super hard to just say you are going to the gym at that size without any kind of mobility or to have a great workout. So I started to walk. I would park a little further out when I went to the grocery store. I would purposely forget an item across the store. I would find an item or two get at the mall instead of Amazon. And I also would track my steps. I have a smart watch, but I think a pedometer is under ten bucks. But walking more and more consistently every day gave me the confidence to even start back at the gym. And it was not a lot of walking compares to most. But just enough for me where I felt like I was getting back some energy and stamina.
Fruits and vegetables don’t make you fat- When I was at a Weight Watchers meeting years ago, a woman told me you do not get fat on fruits and vegetables. I did not appreciate her telling me that, but she is absolutely right. Raw fruit and vegetables are a staple in my diet. Not juice, not dried fruit, not sweet potato fries, but raw fruits and vegetables, seasoned or raw. It is not all of it, but A good apple, pineapple, carrot…okay maybe not carrot. Corn. But you get the point. Those work for me. And sometimes they hit the spot, sometimes not. but I make a point to eat every day.
I do not lie to myself- Look, A Lean Cuisine pizza is not a good pizza. Kale chips are not potato chips. KFC chicken is not healthy. But I am in the mood for pizza, potato chips, and KFC sometimes. So I will try to have it once in a blue moon. It is never as good as thinking it will be. But what I have found over the last few months is that I refuse to waste calories on food that kinda sorta tastes like the real thing. I would rather wait for the real thing. And if I cannot control the food, I just stay away. Luckily I have been able to control lately.
Scale is a weekly tool- Oh Boy! This is a hard one. The scale does not define you. But it sure as fuck will tell you where you are. It is truly one of the best tools I use. but it also does not make sense. How can I weigh myself, take off my clothes, go to the bathroom, and then weigh two pounds more than previously. So I have decided to not be glued to it, but weigh myself once a week. Hell, it took me months to even register on the scale. I focus on good habits. There is no point of weighing myself if I have a fucked up day. But I now look at it as a weekly thing, not daily…or hourly lol.
Tracking- God I hate writing down what I eat. I mean, you can basically scan shit now and it tracks. But it also tells me what I eat!!! That is not always good. But I have found myself to be more accountable when I know what I eat. And I make better choices as well. I look to see if six almonds is really worth it. If I do not write it down, then who cares? i will just pop them in my mouth. but writing down helps.
So every week I am going to share different tips that work for me. Some will not work for you. I am also not in any way telling you what to do or how to live. But I have lost 200 pounds twice and now down 130 pounds. As much as I know how to gain, I know how to lose, and hopefully you will get something from it.
